Having worked for One Guarantee for more than 2 years, Accounts Administrator Tom Kelleher explains more about his role at the company and the perceived challenges of the property development industry.

How long have you worked for One Guarantee?

I joined One Guarantee in October 2019, having worked for its sister company, One Broker, since September 2017.

Have you got any previous experience in the field?

When joining One Guarantee, I had more than two years of experience in the insurance sector. I previously worked in the Accounts team at One Broker, having joined the company as an Accounts Apprentice after completing my A-Levels in Mathematics, Economics and Business Studies.

I am currently AAT Level 3 qualified (Advanced Diploma in Accounting) and am studying for my Professional Diploma in Accounting (AAT Level 4).

What are your favourite aspects of the role?

I love all aspects of my role, from overseeing the post-quote acceptance process and issuing policy documentation to the day-to-day running of the accounts.

However, if I had to pick a favourite, I would have to say I enjoy the accounting aspect of my role the most. I like taking on more responsibility in this field as I work towards my AAT Level 4 qualification and then looking past this working towards my ACCA qualification.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day starts with me waking up at 6am and getting ready for the day. I then do my daily workout at 7am before going through my emails at 8am.

After that, I log on to the system and do the daily bank allocations and instruct the team to begin the technical audit processes once payment has been received from developers.

I then join the 10am morning meeting with the rest of the team. After this meeting, I work through my diaries until 1pm and then go to lunch. I aim to socialise with the wider One Broker group in Norwich or go for a walk to get some fresh air.

Once I come back from lunch, I check my emails again and process any invoices that need raising and continue to work through my diaries. At 4pm, I check if any developments need policy documentation in the coming weeks.

When I finish work, I commute back to my lovely home in Swaffham, where I live with my amazing fiancée. I then cook dinner and do housework until she gets home. We then go for a long walk together, discussing our days, before having tea.

Before shutting off in the evening, we prepare everything we need for the following day.

What are your clients’ biggest challenges?

I would say our client’s biggest challenges relate to the supply of information and documentation. We need lots of detailed information to formalise terms and issue the policy documentation for each development.

However, we strive to make this process as easy and straightforward as possible for our clients. Because of that, we have received positive feedback on our processes, from initial enquiry to the issuing of policy documentation. That is why businesses come back to One Guarantee for multiple developments projects
